5 Weeks

Well, it's been 5 full weeks since I sent my MRI to Dr. Fiegenbaum. He has been out of the office for about 2 of these weeks. I am trying to be patient, as I realize Dr. Fiegenbaum is a very busy man, not only does he do these TC consultations for free, he operates on things besides Tarlov Cysts as well, and he has a family. I continue to take my meds, although, they make me nauseated daily, they take away some of the pain. If I forget to take them, I definitely can tell. Taylor started 1st grade yesterday and is so excited, I am glad that she is kept busy during the day in a constructive way, as I can no longer play with the girls like I used to. Taylor asks me if I will ever be able to play with them again. I try to do board games, but can't usually sit that long. We go outside and I watch the girls swim, although it has been so cool this summer, they haven't got to swim as much as they would have liked. Hopefully next summer will a brighter one for all of us.

Dr. F. is in surgery on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I await his call. Maybe today will be the day.

P.S. Dr. Long from Johns Hopkins is out for surgery of his own, I was told that he doesn't want anyone sending films until October and if you live anywhere other than the West Coast, he wants you to go to him for a consultation, instead of over the phone. So for now, Dr. F. is the route I am going.

  1. Be pt. it just takes a little while. Don't be afraid to get some meds and stay comfortable in the mean time. I don't want you rushing into a decision because you are in too much pain. Others don't understand and unfortunately for us, you cannot give them a cyst just for a day so that they "GET IT." Wouldn't it be nice if life worked that way.

  2. I am an American. I have just been diagnosed with a Tarlov cyst in my lower spine, by my spine surgeon, Dr Carlos Maya who had just looked at my MRIS.
I had just received my MRIs from the Mexicali Radiology Center (Mexico), on Sat, 5th Sept 2009.
In addition, Dr Maya had sent me to the Nerve Specialist, Dr Zazueta, who conducted a nerve test on me.
My nerve test results of which I will collect and return to Dr Maya's clinic on Monday after 6pm, 7th Sept 2009, to show him.
The nerve test will enable Dr Maya to see exactly as to where the exact area of pain is coming from in my back, as I am scheduled for an operation this coming Thursday.
I have had a bad back since 1996. In Arizona, I had the cortizone/steriod shots treatments to my neck and lower back. They were very temporary.
My present symptons are pain, numbness of the left leg. My lower back is always numb, tingling with pain, and I now feel that I can rely only on my right leg, to hobble around.
This change in my level of pain and walking behavior, I think, is due to the discovery of my Tarlov Cyst.
I had a batch of MRIs done in 2008, in Mexicali, Mexico, and there was NO EVIDENCE of this cyst?
I am very happy to come across your blog. This will enable many people who have back pains, to be aware of the Tarlov Cyst, to know that this cyst exists.
For now, I am on meds, one for the nerves, the other (sold only in Mexicali, Mexico), cortizone pills to help with my pain. I can walk/limp for short periods of time to get errands done.
I hope to share my Tarlov Cyst experience with you n your readers, as I prepare to go for my back surgery this coming Thursday morning in Mexicali, Mexico.
Sometimes it may not be 'a diagnosed herniated disc???' but the sneaky Tarlov Cyst that creeps up on a patient who has severe back pain.
